The Arrangers

وَٱلصَّـٰٓفَّـٰتِ صَفًّ۬ا ١

The arrangers (angels) in columns.

فَٱلزَّٲجِرَٲتِ زَجۡرً۬ا ٢

The blamers of those to be blamed.

فَٱلتَّـٰلِيَـٰتِ ذِكۡرًا ٣

The reciters of the messages.

إِنَّ إِلَـٰهَكُمۡ لَوَٲحِدٌ۬ ٤

Your god is only One.

رَّبُّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٲتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا بَيۡنَہُمَا وَرَبُّ ٱلۡمَشَـٰرِقِ ٥

The Lord of the Heavens and the Earth, and everything between them, and Lord of the easts.

إِنَّا زَيَّنَّا ٱلسَّمَآءَ ٱلدُّنۡيَا بِزِينَةٍ ٱلۡكَوَاكِبِ ٦

We have adorned the lowest Heaven with adorning planets.

وَحِفۡظً۬ا مِّن كُلِّ شَيۡطَـٰنٍ۬ مَّارِدٍ۬ ٧

We guarded it from every evil devil.

لَّا يَسَّمَّعُونَ إِلَى ٱلۡمَلَإِ ٱلۡأَعۡلَىٰ وَيُقۡذَفُونَ مِن كُلِّ جَانِبٍ۬ ٨

They cannot spy on the High Society; they get bombarded from every side.

دُحُورً۬ا‌ۖ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ۬ وَاصِبٌ ٩

They have been condemned; they have incurred an eternal retribution.

إِلَّا مَنۡ خَطِفَ ٱلۡخَطۡفَةَ فَأَتۡبَعَهُ ۥ شِہَابٌ۬ ثَاقِبٌ۬ ١٠

If any of them ventures to charge the outer limits, he gets struck with a fierce projectile.

فَٱسۡتَفۡتِہِمۡ أَهُمۡ أَشَدُّ خَلۡقًا أَم مَّنۡ خَلَقۡنَآ‌ۚ إِنَّا خَلَقۡنَـٰهُم مِّن طِينٍ۬ لَّازِبِۭ ١١

Ask them, "Are they more difficult to create, or the other creations?" We created them from wet mud.

بَلۡ عَجِبۡتَ وَيَسۡخَرُونَ ١٢

While you are awed, they mock.

وَإِذَا ذُكِّرُواْ لَا يَذۡكُرُونَ ١٣

When reminded, they take no heed.

وَإِذَا رَأَوۡاْ ءَايَةً۬ يَسۡتَسۡخِرُونَ ١٤

When they see proof, they ridicule it.

وَقَالُوٓاْ إِنۡ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحۡرٌ۬ مُّبِينٌ ١٥

They say, "This is obviously magic!

أَءِذَا مِتۡنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابً۬ا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبۡعُوثُونَ ١٦

"After we die and become dust and bones, do we get resurrected?

أَوَءَابَآؤُنَا ٱلۡأَوَّلُونَ ١٧

"Even our ancient ancestors?"

قُلۡ نَعَمۡ وَأَنتُمۡ دَٲخِرُونَ ١٨

Say, "Yes, you will be forcibly summoned."

فَإِنَّمَا هِىَ زَجۡرَةٌ۬ وَٲحِدَةٌ۬ فَإِذَا هُمۡ يَنظُرُونَ ١٩

All it takes is one nudge, whereupon they (stand up) looking.

وَقَالُواْ يَـٰوَيۡلَنَا هَـٰذَا يَوۡمُ ٱلدِّينِ ٢٠

They will say, "Woe to us; this is the Day of Judgment."

هَـٰذَا يَوۡمُ ٱلۡفَصۡلِ ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ ٢١

This is the day of decision that you used to disbelieve in.

ٱحۡشُرُواْ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ وَأَزۡوَٲجَهُمۡ وَمَا كَانُواْ يَعۡبُدُونَ ٢٢

Summon the transgressors, and their spouses, and the idols they worshipped

مِن دُونِ ٱللهِ فَٱهۡدُوهُمۡ إِلَىٰ صِرَٲطِ ٱلۡجَحِيمِ ٢٣

beside ALLAH, and guide them to the path of Hell.

وَقِفُوهُمۡ‌ۖ إِنَّہُم مَّسۡـُٔولُونَ ٢٤

Stop them, and ask them:

مَا لَكُمۡ لَا تَنَاصَرُونَ ٢٥

"Why do you not help one another?"

بَلۡ هُمُ ٱلۡيَوۡمَ مُسۡتَسۡلِمُونَ ٢٦

They will be, on that day, totally submitting.

وَأَقۡبَلَ بَعۡضُهُمۡ عَلَىٰ بَعۡضٍ۬ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ ٢٧

They will come to each other, questioning and blaming one another.

قَالُوٓاْ إِنَّكُمۡ كُنتُمۡ تَأۡتُونَنَا عَنِ ٱلۡيَمِينِ ٢٨

They will say (to their leaders), "You used to come to us from the right side."

قَالُواْ بَل لَّمۡ تَكُونُواْ مُؤۡمِنِينَ ٢٩

They will respond, "It is you who were not believers.

وَمَا كَانَ لَنَا عَلَيۡكُم مِّن سُلۡطَـٰنِۭ‌ۖ بَلۡ كُنتُمۡ قَوۡمً۬ا طَـٰغِينَ ٣٠

"We never had any power over you; it is you who were wicked.

فَحَقَّ عَلَيۡنَا قَوۡلُ رَبِّنَآ‌ۖ إِنَّا لَذَآٮِٕقُونَ ٣١

"We justly incurred our Lord’s judgment; now we have to suffer.

فَأَغۡوَيۡنَـٰكُمۡ إِنَّا كُنَّا غَـٰوِينَ ٣٢

"We misled you, only because we were astray."

فَإِنَّہُمۡ يَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ۬ فِى ٱلۡعَذَابِ مُشۡتَرِكُونَ ٣٣

Thus, together they will all partake of the retribution on that day.

إِنَّا كَذَٲلِكَ نَفۡعَلُ بِٱلۡمُجۡرِمِينَ ٣٤

This is how we requite the guilty.

إِنَّہُمۡ كَانُوٓاْ إِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمۡ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ يَسۡتَكۡبِرُونَ ٣٥

When they were told, "La Elaha Ella ALLAH” (There is no other god beside Allah), they turned arrogant.

وَيَقُولُونَ أَٮِٕنَّا لَتَارِكُوٓاْ ءَالِهَتِنَا لِشَاعِرٍ۬ مَّجۡنُونِۭ ٣٦

They said, "Shall we leave our gods for the sake of a crazy poet?"

بَلۡ جَآءَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَصَدَّقَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَ ٣٧

In fact, he has brought the truth, and has confirmed the messengers.

إِنَّكُمۡ لَذَآٮِٕقُواْ ٱلۡعَذَابِ ٱلۡأَلِيمِ ٣٨

Most assuredly, you will taste the most painful retribution.

وَمَا تُجۡزَوۡنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ ٣٩

You are requited only for what you have done.

إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللهِ ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِينَ ٤٠

Only ALLAH’s servants who are absolutely devoted to Him (will be saved).

أُوْلَـٰٓٮِٕكَ لَهُمۡ رِزۡقٌ۬ مَّعۡلُومٌ۬ ٤١

They have deserved provisions that are reserved specifically for them.

فَوَٲكِهُ‌ۖ وَهُم مُّكۡرَمُونَ ٤٢

All kinds of fruits. They will be honored.

فِى جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ ٤٣

In the gardens of bliss.

عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ۬ مُّتَقَـٰبِلِينَ ٤٤

On furnishings close to one another.

يُطَافُ عَلَيۡہِم بِكَأۡسٍ۬ مِّن مَّعِينِۭ ٤٥

Cups of pure drinks will be offered to them.

بَيۡضَآءَ لَذَّةٍ۬ لِّلشَّـٰرِبِينَ ٤٦

Clear and delicious for the drinkers.

لَا فِيہَا غَوۡلٌ۬ وَلَا هُمۡ عَنۡہَا يُنزَفُونَ ٤٧

Never polluted, and never exhausted.

وَعِندَهُمۡ قَـٰصِرَٲتُ ٱلطَّرۡفِ عِينٌ۬ ٤٨

With them will be wonderful companions.

كَأَنَّہُنَّ بَيۡضٌ۬ مَّكۡنُونٌ۬ ٤٩

Protected like fragile eggs.

فَأَقۡبَلَ بَعۡضُہُمۡ عَلَىٰ بَعۡضٍ۬ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ ٥٠

They will come to each other, and confer with one another.

قَالَ قَآٮِٕلٌ۬ مِّنۡہُمۡ إِنِّى كَانَ لِى قَرِينٌ۬ ٥١

One of them will say, "I used to have a friend.

يَقُولُ أَءِنَّكَ لَمِنَ ٱلۡمُصَدِّقِينَ ٥٢

"He used to mock: `Do you believe all this?

أَءِذَا مِتۡنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابً۬ا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَدِينُونَ ٥٣

" `After we die and turn into dust and bones, do we get called to account?’ "

قَالَ هَلۡ أَنتُم مُّطَّلِعُونَ ٥٤

He will say, "Just take a look!"

فَٱطَّلَعَ فَرَءَاهُ فِى سَوَآءِ ٱلۡجَحِيمِ ٥٥

When he looks, he will see him (his friend) in the heart of Hell..

قَالَ تَٱللهِ إِن كِدتَّ لَتُرۡدِينِ ٥٦

He (will go to him and) say, "By ALLAH, you almost ruined me.

وَلَوۡلَا نِعۡمَةُ رَبِّى لَكُنتُ مِنَ ٱلۡمُحۡضَرِينَ ٥٧

"If it were not for my Lord’s blessing, I would have been with you now.

أَفَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمَيِّتِينَ ٥٨

"(Do you still believe) that we die,

إِلَّا مَوۡتَتَنَا ٱلۡأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمُعَذَّبِينَ ٥٩

"only the first death, and we never receive any requital?"

إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ ٱلۡفَوۡزُ ٱلۡعَظِيمُ ٦٠

Such is the greatest triumph.

لِمِثۡلِ هَـٰذَا فَلۡيَعۡمَلِ ٱلۡعَـٰمِلُونَ ٦١

This is what every worker should work for.

أَذَٲلِكَ خَيۡرٌ۬ نُّزُلاً أَمۡ شَجَرَةُ ٱلزَّقُّومِ ٦٢

Is this a better destiny, or the tree of bitterness?

إِنَّا جَعَلۡنَـٰهَا فِتۡنَةً۬ لِّلظَّـٰلِمِينَ ٦٣

We have rendered it a punishment for the transgressors.

إِنَّهَا شَجَرَةٌ۬ تَخۡرُجُ فِىٓ أَصۡلِ ٱلۡجَحِيمِ ٦٤

It is a tree that grows in the heart of Hell.

طَلۡعُهَا كَأَنَّهُ ۥ رُءُوسُ ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينِ ٦٥

Its flowers look like the devils’ heads.

فَإِنَّہُمۡ لَأَكِلُونَ مِنۡہَا فَمَالِـُٔونَ مِنۡہَا ٱلۡبُطُونَ ٦٦

They will eat from it until their bellies are filled up.

ثُمَّ إِنَّ لَهُمۡ عَلَيۡہَا لَشَوۡبً۬ا مِّنۡ حَمِيمٍ۬ ٦٧

Then they will top it with a hellish drink.

ثُمَّ إِنَّ مَرۡجِعَهُمۡ لَإِلَى ٱلۡجَحِيمِ ٦٨

Then they will return to Hell.

إِنَّہُمۡ أَلۡفَوۡاْ ءَابَآءَهُمۡ ضَآلِّينَ ٦٩

They found their parents astray.

فَهُمۡ عَلَىٰٓ ءَاثَـٰرِهِمۡ يُہۡرَعُونَ ٧٠

And they blindly followed in their footsteps.

وَلَقَدۡ ضَلَّ قَبۡلَهُمۡ أَڪۡثَرُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ ٧١

Most of the previous generations have strayed in the same manner.

وَلَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا فِيہِم مُّنذِرِينَ ٧٢

We have sent to them warners.

فَٱنظُرۡ ڪَيۡفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلۡمُنذَرِينَ ٧٣

Note the consequences for those who have been warned.

إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللهِ ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِينَ ٧٤

Only ALLAH’s servants who are absolutely devoted to Him (are saved).

وَلَقَدۡ نَادَٮٰنَا نُوحٌ۬ فَلَنِعۡمَ ٱلۡمُجِيبُونَ ٧٥

Thus, Noah called upon us, and we were the best responders.

وَنَجَّيۡنَـٰهُ وَأَهۡلَهُ ۥ مِنَ ٱلۡكَرۡبِ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ ٧٦

We saved him and his family from the great disaster.

وَجَعَلۡنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُ ۥ هُمُ ٱلۡبَاقِينَ ٧٧

We made his companions the survivors.

وَتَرَكۡنَا عَلَيۡهِ فِى ٱلۡأَخِرِينَ ٧٨

And we preserved his history for subsequent generations.

سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰ نُوحٍ۬ فِى ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِينَ ٧٩

Peace be upon Noah among the peoples.

إِنَّا كَذَٲلِكَ نَجۡزِى ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَ ٨٠

We thus reward the righteous.

إِنَّهُ ۥ مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ ٨١

He was one of our believing servants.

ثُمَّ أَغۡرَقۡنَا ٱلۡأَخَرِينَ ٨٢

We drowned all the others.

وَإِنَّ مِن شِيعَتِهِۦ لَإِبۡرَٲهِيمَ ٨٣

Among his followers was Abraham.

إِذۡ جَآءَ رَبَّهُ ۥ بِقَلۡبٍ۬ سَلِيمٍ ٨٤

He came to his Lord wholeheartedly.

إِذۡ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوۡمِهِۦ مَاذَا تَعۡبُدُونَ ٨٥

He said to his father and his people, "What are you worshipping?

أَٮِٕفۡكًا ءَالِهَةً۬ دُونَ ٱللهِ تُرِيدُونَ ٨٦

"Is it these fabricated gods, instead of ALLAH, that you want?

فَمَا ظَنُّكُم بِرَبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِينَ ٨٧

"What do you think of the Lord of the Universe?"

فَنَظَرَ نَظۡرَةً۬ فِى ٱلنُّجُومِ ٨٨

He looked carefully at the stars.

فَقَالَ إِنِّى سَقِيمٌ۬ ٨٩

Then he (gave up and) said, "I am tired of this!"

فَتَوَلَّوۡاْ عَنۡهُ مُدۡبِرِينَ ٩٠

They turned away from him.

فَرَاغَ إِلَىٰٓ ءَالِهَتِہِمۡ فَقَالَ أَلَا تَأۡكُلُونَ ٩١

He then turned on their idols, saying, "Would you like to eat?

مَا لَكُمۡ لَا تَنطِقُونَ ٩٢

"Why do you not speak?"

فَرَاغَ عَلَيۡہِمۡ ضَرۡبَۢا بِٱلۡيَمِينِ ٩٣

He then destroyed them.

فَأَقۡبَلُوٓاْ إِلَيۡهِ يَزِفُّونَ ٩٤

They went to him in a great rage.

قَالَ أَتَعۡبُدُونَ مَا تَنۡحِتُونَ ٩٥

He said, "How can you worship what you carve?

وَٱللَّهُ خَلَقَكُمۡ وَمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ ٩٦

"When ALLAH has created you, and everything you make!"

قَالُواْ ٱبۡنُواْ لَهُ ۥ بُنۡيَـٰنً۬ا فَأَلۡقُوهُ فِى ٱلۡجَحِيمِ ٩٧

They said, "Let us build a great fire, and throw him into it."

فَأَرَادُواْ بِهِۦ كَيۡدً۬ا فَجَعَلۡنَـٰهُمُ ٱلۡأَسۡفَلِينَ ٩٨

They schemed against him, but we made them the losers.

وَقَالَ إِنِّى ذَاهِبٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّى سَيَہۡدِينِ ٩٩

He said, "I am going to my Lord; He will guide me."

رَبِّ هَبۡ لِى مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ ١٠٠

"My Lord, grant me righteous (children)."

فَبَشَّرۡنَـٰهُ بِغُلَـٰمٍ حَلِيمٍ۬ ١٠١

We gave him good news of a good child.

فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ مَعَهُ ٱلسَّعۡىَ قَالَ يَـٰبُنَىَّ إِنِّىٓ أَرَىٰ فِى ٱلۡمَنَامِ أَنِّىٓ أَذۡبَحُكَ فَٱنظُرۡ مَاذَا تَرَىٰ‌ۚ قَالَ يَـٰٓأَبَتِ ٱفۡعَلۡ مَا تُؤۡمَرُ‌ۖ سَتَجِدُنِىٓ إِن شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ ١٠٢

When he grew enough to work with him, he said, "My son, I see in a dream that I am sacrificing you. What do you think?" He said, "O my father, do what you are commanded to do. You will find me, ALLAH willing, patient."

فَلَمَّآ أَسۡلَمَا وَتَلَّهُ ۥ لِلۡجَبِينِ ١٠٣

They both submitted, and he put his forehead down (to sacrifice him).

وَنَـٰدَيۡنَـٰهُ أَن يَـٰٓإِبۡرَٲهِيمُ ١٠٤

We called him: "O Abraham.

قَدۡ صَدَّقۡتَ ٱلرُّءۡيَآ‌ۚ إِنَّا كَذَٲلِكَ نَجۡزِى ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَ ١٠٥

"You have believed the dream." We thus reward the righteous.

إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ ٱلۡبَلَـٰٓؤُاْ ٱلۡمُبِينُ ١٠٦

That was an exacting test indeed.

وَفَدَيۡنَـٰهُ بِذِبۡحٍ عَظِيمٍ۬ ١٠٧

We ransomed (Ismail) by substituting an animal sacrifice.

وَتَرَكۡنَا عَلَيۡهِ فِى ٱلۡأَخِرِينَ ١٠٨

And we preserved his history for subsequent generations.

سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰٓ إِبۡرَٲهِيمَ ١٠٩

Peace be upon Abraham.

كَذَٲلِكَ نَجۡزِى ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَ ١١٠

We thus reward the righteous.

إِنَّهُ ۥ مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ ١١١

He was one of our believing servants.

وَبَشَّرۡنَـٰهُ بِإِسۡحَـٰقَ نَبِيًّ۬ا مِّنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ ١١٢

Then we gave him the good news about the birth of Isaac, to be one of the righteous prophets.

وَبَـٰرَكۡنَا عَلَيۡهِ وَعَلَىٰٓ إِسۡحَـٰقَ‌ۚ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِهِمَا مُحۡسِنٌ۬ وَظَالِمٌ۬ لِّنَفۡسِهِۦ مُبِينٌ۬ ١١٣

We blessed him and Isaac. Among their descendants, some are righteous, and some are wicked transgressors.

وَلَقَدۡ مَنَنَّا عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَهَـٰرُونَ ١١٤

We also blessed Moses and Aaron.

وَنَجَّيۡنَـٰهُمَا وَقَوۡمَهُمَا مِنَ ٱلۡڪَرۡبِ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ ١١٥

We delivered them and their people from the great disaster.

وَنَصَرۡنَـٰهُمۡ فَكَانُواْ هُمُ ٱلۡغَـٰلِبِينَ ١١٦

We supported them, until they became the winners.

وَءَاتَيۡنَـٰهُمَا ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ ٱلۡمُسۡتَبِينَ ١١٧

We gave both of them the profound scripture.

وَهَدَيۡنَـٰهُمَا ٱلصِّرَٲطَ ٱلۡمُسۡتَقِيمَ ١١٨

We guided them in the right path.

وَتَرَكۡنَا عَلَيۡهِمَا فِى ٱلۡأَخِرِينَ ١١٩

We preserved their history for subsequent generations.

سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَهَـٰرُونَ ١٢٠

Peace be upon Moses and Aaron.

إِنَّا ڪَذَٲلِكَ نَجۡزِى ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَ ١٢١

We thus reward the righteous.

إِنَّہُمَا مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ ١٢٢

Both of them were among our righteous servants.

وَإِنَّ إِلۡيَاسَ لَمِنَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَ ١٢٣

Elias was one of the messengers.

إِذۡ قَالَ لِقَوۡمِهِۦۤ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ١٢٤

He said to his people, "Would you not work righteousness?

أَتَدۡعُونَ بَعۡلاً۬ وَتَذَرُونَ أَحۡسَنَ ٱلۡخَـٰلِقِينَ ١٢٥

"Do you worship a statue, instead of the Supreme Creator?

ٱللَّهَ رَبَّكُمۡ وَرَبَّ ءَابَآٮِٕكُمُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ ١٢٦

"ALLAH; your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers!"

فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَإِنَّہُمۡ لَمُحۡضَرُونَ ١٢٧

They disbelieved him. Consequently, they had to be called to account.

إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللهِ ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِينَ ١٢٨

Only ALLAH’s servants who are absolutely devoted to Him (are saved).

وَتَرَكۡنَا عَلَيۡهِ فِى ٱلۡأَخِرِينَ ١٢٩

We preserved his history for subsequent generations.

سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰٓ إِلۡ يَاسِينَ ١٣٠

Peace be upon Elias, and all those like him.

إِنَّا كَذَٲلِكَ نَجۡزِى ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَ ١٣١

We thus reward the righteous.

إِنَّهُ ۥ مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ ١٣٢

He was one of our believing servants.

وَإِنَّ لُوطً۬ا لَّمِنَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَ ١٣٣

Lot was one of the messengers.

إِذۡ نَجَّيۡنَـٰهُ وَأَهۡلَهُ ۥۤ أَجۡمَعِينَ ١٣٤

We saved him and all his family.

إِلَّا عَجُوزً۬ا فِى ٱلۡغَـٰبِرِينَ ١٣٥

Only the old woman was doomed.

ثُمَّ دَمَّرۡنَا ٱلۡأَخَرِينَ ١٣٦

We annihilated all the others.

وَإِنَّكُمۡ لَتَمُرُّونَ عَلَيۡہِم مُّصۡبِحِينَ ١٣٧

You still pass by their ruins by day.

وَبِٱلَّيۡلِ‌ۗ أَفَلَا تَعۡقِلُونَ ١٣٨

And by night. Would you understand?

وَإِنَّ يُونُسَ لَمِنَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَ ١٣٩

Jonah was one of the messengers.

إِذۡ أَبَقَ إِلَى ٱلۡفُلۡكِ ٱلۡمَشۡحُونِ ١٤٠

He escaped to the loaded ship.

فَسَاهَمَ فَكَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُدۡحَضِينَ ١٤١

He rebelled and thus, he joined the losers.

فَٱلۡتَقَمَهُ ٱلۡحُوتُ وَهُوَ مُلِيمٌ۬ ١٤٢

Consequently, the fish swallowed him, and he was the one to blame.

فَلَوۡلَآ أَنَّهُ ۥ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُسَبِّحِينَ ١٤٣

If it were not that he resorted to meditation (on Allah),

لَلَبِثَ فِى بَطۡنِهِۦۤ إِلَىٰ يَوۡمِ يُبۡعَثُونَ ١٤٤

he (Jonah) would have stayed in its belly until the Day of Resurrection.

فَنَبَذۡنَـٰهُ بِٱلۡعَرَآءِ وَهُوَ سَقِيمٌ۬ ١٤٥

We had him thrown up into the desert, exhausted.

وَأَنۢبَتۡنَا عَلَيۡهِ شَجَرَةً۬ مِّن يَقۡطِينٍ۬ ١٤٦

We had a tree of edible fruit grown for him.

وَأَرۡسَلۡنَـٰهُ إِلَىٰ مِاْئَةِ أَلۡفٍ أَوۡ يَزِيدُونَ ١٤٧

Then we sent him to a hundred thousand, or more.

فَـَٔامَنُواْ فَمَتَّعۡنَـٰهُمۡ إِلَىٰ حِينٍ۬ ١٤٨

They did believe, and we let them enjoy (this life) for a while.

فَٱسۡتَفۡتِهِمۡ أَلِرَبِّكَ ٱلۡبَنَاتُ وَلَهُمُ ٱلۡبَنُونَ ١٤٩

Ask them if your Lord has daughters, while they have sons!

أَمۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡمَلَـٰٓٮِٕڪَةَ إِنَـٰثً۬ا وَهُمۡ شَـٰهِدُونَ ١٥٠

Did we create the angels to be females? Did they witness that?

أَلَآ إِنَّہُم مِّنۡ إِفۡكِهِمۡ لَيَقُولُونَ ١٥١

Indeed, they grossly blaspheme when they say –

وَلَدَ ٱللَّهُ وَإِنَّہُمۡ لَكَـٰذِبُونَ ١٥٢

“ALLAH has begotten a son.” Indeed, they are liars.

أَصۡطَفَى ٱلۡبَنَاتِ عَلَى ٱلۡبَنِينَ ١٥٣

Did He choose the girls over the boys?

مَا لَكُمۡ كَيۡفَ تَحۡكُمُونَ ١٥٤

What is wrong with your logic?

أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ ١٥٥

Why do you not take heed?

أَمۡ لَكُمۡ سُلۡطَـٰنٌ۬ مُّبِينٌ۬ ١٥٦

Do you have any incontrovertible proof?

فَأۡتُواْ بِكِتَـٰبِكُمۡ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَـٰدِقِينَ ١٥٧

Show us your book, if you are truthful.

وَجَعَلُواْ بَيۡنَهُ ۥ وَبَيۡنَ ٱلۡجِنَّةِ نَسَبً۬ا‌ۚ وَلَقَدۡ عَلِمَتِ ٱلۡجِنَّةُ إِنَّہُمۡ لَمُحۡضَرُونَ ١٥٨

They even invented a special relationship between Him and the jinns. The jinns themselves know that they are subservient.

سُبۡحَـٰنَ ٱللهِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ ١٥٩

ALLAH be Glorified; far above their claims.

إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللهِ ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِينَ ١٦٠

Only ALLAH’s servants who are devoted to Him (are saved).

فَإِنَّكُمۡ وَمَا تَعۡبُدُونَ ١٦١

Indeed, you and what you worship.

مَآ أَنتُمۡ عَلَيۡهِ بِفَـٰتِنِينَ ١٦٢

Cannot impose anything on Him.

إِلَّا مَنۡ هُوَ صَالِ ٱلۡجَحِيمِ ١٦٣

Only you will burn in Hell.

وَمَا مِنَّآ إِلَّا لَهُ ۥ مَقَامٌ۬ مَّعۡلُومٌ۬ ١٦٤

Each one of us has a specific job.

وَإِنَّا لَنَحۡنُ ٱلصَّآفُّونَ ١٦٥

We are the arrangers.

وَإِنَّا لَنَحۡنُ ٱلۡمُسَبِّحُونَ ١٦٦

We have duly glorified (our Lord).

وَإِن كَانُواْ لَيَقُولُونَ ١٦٧

They used to say,

لَوۡ أَنَّ عِندَنَا ذِكۡرً۬ا مِّنَ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ ١٦٨

"Had we received the correct instructions from our ancestors,

لَكُنَّا عِبَادَ ٱللهِ ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِينَ ١٦٩

"we would have been worshipers; devoted to ALLAH only."

فَكَفَرُواْ بِهِۦ‌ۖ فَسَوۡفَ يَعۡلَمُونَ ١٧٠

But they disbelieved, and they will surely find out.

وَلَقَدۡ سَبَقَتۡ كَلِمَتُنَا لِعِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَ ١٧١

Our decision is already decreed for our servants the messengers.

إِنَّہُمۡ لَهُمُ ٱلۡمَنصُورُونَ ١٧٢

They are surely the victors.

وَإِنَّ جُندَنَا لَهُمُ ٱلۡغَـٰلِبُونَ ١٧٣

Our soldiers are the winners.

فَتَوَلَّ عَنۡہُمۡ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍ۬ ١٧٤

So disregard them for awhile.

وَأَبۡصِرۡهُمۡ فَسَوۡفَ يُبۡصِرُونَ ١٧٥

Watch them; they too will watch.

أَفَبِعَذَابِنَا يَسۡتَعۡجِلُونَ ١٧٦

Do they challenge our retribution?

فَإِذَا نَزَلَ بِسَاحَتِہِمۡ فَسَآءَ صَبَاحُ ٱلۡمُنذَرِينَ ١٧٧

When it hits them one day, it will be a miserable day; they have been sufficiently warned.

وَتَوَلَّ عَنۡهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍ۬ ١٧٨

Disregard them for awhile.

وَأَبۡصِرۡ فَسَوۡفَ يُبۡصِرُونَ ١٧٩

Watch them; they too will watch.

سُبۡحَـٰنَ رَبِّكَ رَبِّ ٱلۡعِزَّةِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ ١٨٠

Glory be to your Lord, The Most Dignified Lord; far above their claims.

وَسَلَـٰمٌ عَلَى ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَ ١٨١

Peace be upon the messengers.

وَٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِينَ ١٨٢

And Praise be to ALLAH, Lord of the Universe.
