عَفَا ٱللَّهُ عَنكَ لِمَ أَذِنتَ لَهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ يَتَبَيَّنَ لَكَ ٱلَّذِينَ صَدَقُواْ وَتَعۡلَمَ ٱلۡكَـٰذِبِينَ ٤٣

ALLAH has pardoned you: why did you give them permission (to stay behind), before you could distinguish those who are truthful from the liars?

    This means that it is really GOD who puts the believers to the Test through His messenger, who may not fully realize and comprehend as he is only a human like you, and may let you off the hook, but GOD will not. To complete the Test, GOD will see and test you with your money and your lives. This means that all your material resources and your lives should be dedicated to GOD as dictated in the Quran. The striving alongside the messenger is the key component of this important Test, as mentioned through several verses (49:15, 9:42-44, 9:88, 9:71-72, 61:10-13, 24:63, 9:81, 33:36).
