True Believers Are Eager To Strive
لَـٰكِنِ ٱلرَّسُولُ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ مَعَهُ ۥ جَـٰهَدُواْ بِأَمۡوَٲلِهِمۡ وَأَنفُسِهِمۡۚ وَأُوْلَـٰٓٮِٕكَ لَهُمُ ٱلۡخَيۡرَٲتُۖ وَأُوْلَـٰٓٮِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُفۡلِحُونَ ٨٨
As for the messenger and those who believed with him, they eagerly strive with their money and their lives. These have deserved all the good things; they are the winners.

Striving in the Cause of ALLAH is mandatory (compulsory)
The striving of the messenger and the believers cannot be expressed in any better way than what God has expressed through verse 9:88, whereby the 1st part has the Coded letters of the messenger, and the 2nd part has the Coded letters of Allah, Most Glorified.
