Marrying The Divorced Wife Of Your Adopted Son Is Made Lawful By Allah
وَإِذۡ تَقُولُ لِلَّذِىٓ أَنۡعَمَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيۡهِ وَأَنۡعَمۡتَ عَلَيۡهِ أَمۡسِكۡ عَلَيۡكَ زَوۡجَكَ وَٱتَّقِ ٱللَّهَ وَتُخۡفِى فِى نَفۡسِكَ مَا ٱللَّهُ مُبۡدِيهِ وَتَخۡشَى ٱلنَّاسَ وَٱللَّهُ أَحَقُّ أَن تَخۡشَٮٰهُۖ فَلَمَّا قَضَىٰ زَيۡدٌ۬ مِّنۡہَا وَطَرً۬ا زَوَّجۡنَـٰكَهَا لِكَىۡ لَا يَكُونَ عَلَى ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ حَرَجٌ۬ فِىٓ أَزۡوَٲجِ أَدۡعِيَآٮِٕهِمۡ إِذَا قَضَوۡاْ مِنۡہُنَّ وَطَرً۬اۚ وَكَانَ أَمۡرُ ٱللهِ مَفۡعُولاً۬ ٣٧
Recall that you said to the one who was blessed by ALLAH, and blessed by you, "Keep your wife and reverence ALLAH," and you hid inside yourself what ALLAH wished to proclaim. Thus, you feared the people, when you were supposed to fear only ALLAH. When Zeid was completely through with his wife, we had you marry her, in order to establish the precedent for the believers that a man may marry the divorced wife of his adopted son. ALLAH’s commands shall be done.

In the Arab society, a son is considered essential in carrying the family name and they pride themselves in such tradition. Women are routinely divorced for not bearing a son, or they marry another woman in addition to the existing wife. They fail to see and reflect that God did not bless prophet Muhammad with any son.
