وَقَالَ لَهُمۡ نَبِيُّهُمۡ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ قَدۡ بَعَثَ لَڪُمۡ طَالُوتَ مَلِكً۬اۚ قَالُوٓاْ أَنَّىٰ يَكُونُ لَهُ ٱلۡمُلۡكُ عَلَيۡنَا وَنَحۡنُ أَحَقُّ بِٱلۡمُلۡكِ مِنۡهُ وَلَمۡ يُؤۡتَ سَعَةً۬ مِّنَ ٱلۡمَالِۚ قَالَ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ ٱصۡطَفَٮٰهُ عَلَيۡڪُمۡ وَزَادَهُ ۥ بَسۡطَةً۬ فِى ٱلۡعِلۡمِ وَٱلۡجِسۡمِۖ وَٱللَّهُ يُؤۡتِى مُلۡڪَهُ ۥ مَن يَشَآءُۚ وَٱللَّهُ وَاسِعٌ عَلِيمٌ۬ ٢٤٧
Their prophet said to them, "ALLAH has appointed Taloot (Saul) to be your king." They said, "How can he have kingship over us when we are more worthy of kingship than he; he is not even rich?" He said, "ALLAH has chosen him over you, and has blessed him with an abundance in knowledge and in body." ALLAH grants His kingship to whomever He wills. ALLAH is Bounteous, Omniscient.

God's Laws Are Meant To Save Us
Reflect on the law of fighting in a war and thereby acquiring captives or prisoners of war. Quran teaches us that Muhammad had to actively engage and fight in wars, though he was the leader of the believers. He was not allowed to sit at home and conduct an absentee war with his followers doing the fighting alone. Neither could he acquire captives unless he participated in the war (8:67).
